Parents and Grandparents Program is open now for Canadian Immigration

The Parents and Grandparents Program is open now and will remain open until November 3rd 2020. Now the Canadian Citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents after the outbreak of COVID-19. Expression of Interest opens from October 13 and will be open until November 3rd. 

PGP allows candidates to sponsor their parents and grandparents for Canadian Immigration. After the announced date, which is November 3, Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will hold a lottery. After the lottery, it will be decided that 10,000 sponsors can submit applications by 2021. 

Procedure for PGP:

First of all, the interested candidate has to submit an online sponsorship interest form. For the submission of this form, one must have a Digital copy of a Canadian passport. Along with this provide accurate personal information. In a way, one can enter the pool of candidates for PGP 2020. IRCC will select 10,000 people after the lottery to apply for parents and grandparents sponsorship. Selected candidates have to pay application fees to IRCC and a time limit of 60 days to submit sponsorship applications. According to IRCC, the processing time for the PGP is almost 20 to 24 months.

Only for Quebec, one has to get a Quebec Selection Certificate along with the application to IRCC. After the submission of Interest to Sponsor form, a confirmation number will be provided. 

Eligibility for PGP:

If one is above the age of 18 and a permanent resident or Canadian Citizen. Meet the criteria set by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada. Show proper financial support for the family with the past three tax years. The income of sponsors is for the year 2020, 2019 and 2018 tax years.
