Skilled Visa Salary Thresholds to Rise in Australia Starting July 2025

Australia to Raise Skilled Visa Salary Thresholds from July 1, 2025

  • Australia will increase the income requirement for skilled visas starting July 1, 2025.

  • The new salary thresholds will be aligned with the country’s Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE).

  • These updates affect several skilled visa streams, including Subclass 482, 186, 494, and 187.

  • Current visa holders will not be affected by these changes.

What’s Changing?

The Australian Government has announced an update to the minimum salary thresholds for skilled workers applying for visas. This change aims to ensure that migrant workers are paid fairly and that their employment does not negatively impact job opportunities for Australian citizens.

Starting July 1, 2025, the following thresholds will apply:

New Skilled Visa Salary Requirements

  1. Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT):

    • Current: AUD 73,150

    • New (from July 1, 2025): AUD 76,515

    • Applies to:

      • Subclass 482 (Skills in Demand) Visa

      • Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme) Visa

  2. Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT):

    • Current: AUD 133,500

    • New (from July 1, 2025): AUD 141,200

    • Applies to:

      • Subclass 482 (Skills in Demand) Visa – Specialist Skills Stream

  3. Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT):

    • Current: AUD 73,150

    • New (from July 1, 2025): AUD 76,515

    • Applies to:

      • Subclass 494 (Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional) Visa

      • Subclass 187 (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme) Visa

Why This Change Matters

This policy will help to:

Important Note for Visa Holders

If you already hold one of these visas, you will not be impacted by the new salary thresholds. The changes only apply to new applications submitted on or after July 1, 2025.
