US to Introduce New $250 US Visa Integrity Fee for Visitors

The United States will soon introduce a new $250 visa integrity fee for most international visitors who need a non-immigrant visa to enter the country. This new fee is part of a recently passed domestic policy bill.

Who Will Pay the Fee?

The fee applies to:

  • All non-immigrant visa applicants (e.g., students, workers, temporary visitors)

It does not apply to travelers from countries in the Visa Waiver Program (like the UK, Australia, and many EU nations) who stay for 90 days or less.

When and How to Pay?

  • The fee will be paid at the time of visa issuance.
  • There are no waivers for this fee.
  • In the future, travelers may be eligible for a refund if they follow all visa rules, but details on the refund process have not yet been announced.

Purpose of the Fee

According to U.S. officials, the fee is meant to:

  • Strengthen immigration enforcement
  • Prevent visa overstays
  • Fund border security

Reactions

Travel industry leaders have criticized the fee, calling it a financial burden that may discourage tourism and business travel. The U.S. Travel Association said it could increase upfront travel costs by 144%, even if refunds are eventually allowed. For further assistance, please contact Asif Consulting.
