Return of Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is readying itself up to send invitations to potential sponsors for the highly awaited Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). Beginning on the 21st of May 2024, IRCC intends to issue 35.700 invitations and approve 20,500 applications.

Eligibility for PGP 2024

For the 4th year in a row, this PGP round will exclusively consider potential sponsors who submitted their forms in 2020. Invitations will be sent via emails, so those who applied in 2020 should check their emails from 21st May onwards.

Alternatives to the PGP

If you have not been selected for the PGP, the Super Visa is a great alternative method allowing parents and grandparents to be eligible for extended visits to Canada for a maximum of 5 years at a time. The stay can even be extended by an additional 2 years. Another major advantage of the Super Visa is that it can be applied for at any time of the year, unlike the PGP. IRCC aims for a 112-day processing time for Super Visa applications, allowing applicants to receive quicker decisions and reunite with their loved ones.
