For skill level assessment, Australia and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupation (ANZSCO) were used, which was used to assess the skill level of jobs to attain essential skills work visas.

Immigration New Zealand decided last year that the duration of essential skills visas would be determined by the region where the individual is working whether paid above or below the median wage but now it is applied with modifications as temporarily reduced visa duration for low paid workers. Probably in the future, these changes will apply to high paid workers in all regions as market conditions are affected by Covid-19. We as immigration consultants will help you to deal with new changes in a professional way.

Along with this Immigration New Zealand (INZ) will use an overall balance in a way of remuneration threshold to determine the criteria of job whether it’s high or low paid as the candidate who falls under the category of below the median wage, which is currently $25.50 per hour, he would be needed to add a Skills Match Report (SMR) from the Ministry of Social Development for Work Visa application.

These changes are implemented from July 27, 2020, as low paid visa holders to need to spend 12 months outside of New Zealand after holding the low paid visa at least for 3 years.

Although there is no more ANZSCO for skill level assessment for NewZealand Essential Skills Work Visa, ANZSCO will be continued to be used as:

  • For the assessment of Skilled Migrant residence visa application
  • To assess that rate of pay for any position should not be less than the Market rate
  • To assess that applicant is qualified for the position for example for a medical doctor, a medical degree, and professional registration.
