Manitoba improving criteria for fair foreign credentials assessment
Manitoba Government is putting efforts to speed up the foreign credentials recognition process fairly. The announcement for this new process for the fair assessment of foreign credentials was held on 2nd November.
According to the Economic Development and Training minister, it is the aim of the Manitoba Government to remove barriers. So that internationally educated and qualified people can come to the province and practice their profession. And they should be treated fair enough when they apply for a practice license.
Manitoba wants newcomers to rejoin professions quickly as they arrive in the province and keep their skills up to date. This will help Manitoba to grow the economy. Mostly applicants who come to Manitoba are highly educated and have in-demand experience and skills.
Regulated Professions Act
Regulated professions act was passed in 2009 which helped the applicants with regulated professions that the registration process should be regulated for foreign students and entered Manitoba. This act was also to ensure the registration process should be transparent and fair. In which 30 self-regulated professions were added in Manitoba which includes Registered Nurses, Pharmacists, Physicians, Surgeons, Dental Association, Chartered Accountants, Social Workers and Medical Association.
The recent amendments will help to reduce difficulties for the internationally trained applicants for their timely registration to regulate professions. It will help to set any timeline standards and strategy for regulated professions which will help to shorten the registration process. Registration requirements and assessments to ensure the practice of the profession. Internationally Educated applicants must have ways to deal with gaps and fulfil registration requirements. For this purpose, professions should have work accordingly with post-secondary institutions and employers.
Manitoba will select a director who will keep the reporting structure clear and there would be additional support staff. Changes will help to simplify the administration of the act which is eventually better for internationally trained applicants. Regulated professions are to protect the public interest and their assessment and regulation process was needed to be improved.
