COVID-19 concession period to cease.
25th November 2023 marks the end of the COVID-19 concessions, due to international flying constraints being discontinued. This means individuals attempting to visit Australia will no longer be required to provide information related to their COVID vaccination or to apply for travel exemptions.
The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) holders from the visa streams of ENS (Employer Nomination Scheme), RSMS (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme), and TRT (Temporary Residence Transition) will now be required to have worked alongside their employer or worked in the occupation for medical practitioners and certain executives for 2 of their recent 3 years. The COVID-19 concessions found below will also be terminated due to redundancies;
- decreased work periods due to COVID-19 will not be considered for present-day work experience requirements for the nomination applications of ENS, RSMS, and TRT streams.
- The COVID-19 age exemption concession for high-earning applicants will no longer be applicable for present-day ENS and RSMS applications.
However, age exemption for legacy 457 in Australia for 12 months between the time periods of 1st February 2020 to 14th December 2021 will still be applicable for ENS visa applications registered before 1 July 2024.
Skilled Regional Visa (subclass 887)
The concessions given to subclass 887 visas shall also be terminated as a result of the end of the COVID-19 concession period. This change will now require them to be present in Australia when submitting their application. Applicants will now only be able to access the employee requirement concession if;
- During the concession period, they had an eligible skilled provisional.
- Submit a valid application during a 3-month period before 26th February 2024
Restrictions that had been removed due to the COVID-19 concession period will now be restored. However, applicants for the Parents and Child visa who were present in Australia while applying will still be considered eligible.
Business Innovation and Investment Program Visas
Applicants who had been eligible to exercise COVID-19 concessions to make a legitimate application for a SC188/888 visa can accomplish that for 3 months after the cessation of the concession period. Programs need to be submitted before 27th February 2024.
Safe Haven Enterprise Visa
A new permanent visa option has been created by the Australian government for Safe Haven enterprise visa holders by use of the Resolution of Status (subclass851) (ROS) visa.
Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485)
All applicants from streams of the TGV must now be residing in Australia when applying after 25th November 2023. Applications can still be granted to applicants not present in Australia.
