Canada’s Global Talent Stream to Work in Canada

Canada’s Global Talent Stream to Work in Canada

Canada’s Global Talent Stream (GTS) is a designated program to attract highly skilled workers. It is a special program to fill in-demand jobs in Canada quickly. The program is being managed through Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). Whereas,  Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) handles work permit approvals.

The GTS aims to find talented foreign workers and make the process easy for them to enter certain job fields where Canada needs more skilled workers. Here’s what you need to know:

Who Can Apply?

Employers:

  • Employers must have a clean record of following Canadian labor laws.
  • They need to create a plan showing how they’ll benefit the Canadian job market.
  • Jobs must meet certain salary requirements.

Job Seekers:

  • Candidates must meet the education, training, and experience required for the job.
  • English or French proficiency may be required depending on the job.

How to Apply:

Step 1: Employer Prep

  • Employers need to make sure they meet all requirements and know what job they want to fill.

Step 2: LMIA Application

  • Employers apply for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) with ESDC. This includes details about the job and recruitment efforts.

Step 3: Labour Market Benefits Plan

  • Employers must submit a plan showing how they’ll support the Canadian job market.

Step 4: LMIA Evaluation

  • ESDC reviews the application to see if it meets GTS standards.

Step 5: Work Permit Application

  • As the employer gets a positive LMIA, the worker can apply for a work permit.

Step 6: Work Permit Issued

  • If approved by IRCC, the worker gets their permit and can start working in Canada.

Processing Times:

  • GTS LMIA applications are usually processed in about 7 business days.
  • Work permits are typically issued within a few weeks after LMIA approval.

The GTS includes jobs like computer and information systems managers, engineers, software developers, and more. Check the full list for details.
