British government announces new immigration system for Pakistan:
The home secretary also met with representatives from the Ministry of Interior and other related organizations to discuss common priorities and potential future collaboration to strengthen bilateral connections. He discussed issues affecting operational cooperation and noted areas of shared interest to deepen the relationship.
Rycroft expressed his desire to work closely with the government of Pakistan to address shared threats and bring criminals to justice by highlighting the trailblazing cooperation between the Metropolitan Police and Pakistani authorities last year that led to the murder of Dr. Imran Farooq receiving justice.
Rycroft spoke about a range of security issues related to recent developments in Afghanistan, such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and illegal financing. Former Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab had also traveled to Islamabad earlier in September.
LONDON:The British government has signed a new deal that calls for the return of foreign criminals and immigration offenders from Pakistan to the UK.
Following the new agreement’s signing on Wednesday with Pakistan’s Interior Secretary Yousaf Naseem Khokhar and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Moazzam Ahmad Khan, Home Secretary Priti Patel
The News was informed by the spokesman for the Pakistan High Commission that it is a reciprocal arrangement and applies to both nations equally.
The UK Home Office has signed five return agreements as part of its “New Plan for Immigration” in the last 15 months. Similar agreements were signed by the UK with Albania, Nigeria, and India.
Those Pakistanis who hold dual citizenship—carrying both Pakistani and British identities—will not be the focus of the new policy’s implementation.
The News was informed by diplomats that the new policy will apply to Pakistani passport holders who are either involved in organized crime, such as sex grooming and pedophilia, or immigration offenses.
“I make no apology for removing dangerous foreign criminals and immigration offenders who have no right to remain in the UK,” said Home Secretary Priti Patel.
“The British public has had enough of people abusing our laws and manipulating the system, so we can’t get rid of them,” the spokesperson said. This agreement, which I am honored to have signed with our Pakistani friends, demonstrates how the government is carrying out the New Strategy for Immigration.
The pattern of last-minute claims and appeals that sometimes delay removals will be broken by our new Borders Act, which will go further.
According to a statement from the Home Office, Pakistanis make up the seventh-highest percentage of foreign criminals in prisons in England and Wales, accounting for close to 3% of all foreign inmates.
According to the Home Office, the agreement highlights both governments’ continuous commitment to addressing the issue of illegal immigration and the serious challenges it poses to both countries.
The agreement also covers ongoing efforts to strengthen and broaden law enforcement cooperation between the UK and Pakistan.
A Pakistani diplomat who participated in talks with the UK government revealed that Christian Turner, the UK’s high commissioner to Pakistan, had been pushing for the accord for a while.
According to him, Pakistan has received foreign criminals from the UK for almost 10 years through the MLA and on an individual basis, but this is the first time a formal state-to-state level agreement has been inked.
